At MJA, we have a wealth of experience at our fingertips from within the Electrification and Telecommunication Industries, covering LV, HV, OLE and Plant & Distribution, alongside Telecommunications, SCADA and Ancillary Civils.

Iain started his career in the rail industry in 2006, as a trainee OLE Lineman with Elec-Track Installations on the Rugby to Nuneaton Upgrade (RuN) Project. Following the successful completion of RuN, Iain undertook various supervisory roles before moving into engineering. Iain worked on other major multi-discipline projects, including Edinburgh Tram, Manchester Metrolink, Midland Metro, GE Renewals, Stratford Remodelling, Willesden Remodelling, LNW and LNE S&C Renewals and Northern Hub Work Package A (WPA) Ordsall Chord. It was working on the Northern Hub project as the Network Rail Electrification Project Engineer, Iain received recognition for his hard work and diligence with a medal from the Royal Academy of Engineers for Major Project of the Year Award in 2018.

Iain's experience and knowledge come from both light and heavy rail systems, covering all aspects of electrification. He has built up a broad range of skills from Engineering, Construction, Design, Risk Management and Project Management which he shares with his team. Iain has worked on both the client and contractor side of the industry, acknowledging the differences and links between them, giving him insight and understanding
to aid the delivery of his projects.

Andrew Hurst
Operations Director
 
Andrew joined the rail industry in 1996, starting with GEC ALSTHOM Transportation Projects, working on the Arlanda Airport Rail Link in Sweden. Andrew has worked his way up through various engineering and project management roles in rail, and light rail in the UK and overseas, as well as UK highways.

Andrew has undertaken client roles in both design and construction for the likes of Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and Network Rail as a Project Engineer. Andrew has also worked in engineering consultancy roles for the likes of Arup, Mouchel and Atkins, undertaking both project management and CRE in Telecommunications design. Projects have included NRT BSC Surveys, AI Cameras Design, Euston Ramp SISS Design, The Greater West GSM-R, Euston HS2 Enabling SCADA, Transpennine Route Upgrade, Montréal Contrecoeur Container Port, Managed Motorways, West Coast Route Modernisation and Tuen Mun light rail, to name a few.

Ted began in the rail industry in 1989 starting out as a Technical Officer with the British Rail Department of Signalling and Telecommunications Engineering. Ted has experienced all aspects of a project life cycle, beginning with a design for the Merseyrail 140Mbit/s transmission network, in-office data networks and CCTV systems. Ted further developed his skills and knowledge on projects such as Scotrail WAN, ADtranz WAN, Merseyrail RJIS WAN, MTS Voicemail Moves, Bedford Station New Platform and West Brompton New Station undertaking Project Engineering, Installation and Testing roles before moving into Site Supervisor and a Project Engineer role on West Coast Route Modernisation.

Ted has extensive experience in the client organisation, having undertaken the role of Telecommunications Performance Engineer with Marconi Corporation for the West Coast Mainline Maintenance, before moving onto Network Rail as their Telecommunications Engineer to deliver the FTN on the Water Orton Re-signalling Project, Walsall and Cannock Lines Re-signalling, and Stourbridge to Hartlebury Re-signalling Projects. Ted also applied his skills to the aviation industry to develop enhancements to baggage
handling systems and transport lines for Heathrow Terminals 1 and 2.

Les Church
Associate E&P Engineer
 
Les is an adaptable and flexible professional, who enjoys working collaboratively with a holistic approach towards work. He is a highly motivated and efficient engineer with a keen interest in innovative and energy-efficient technology.

Les has a vast amount of experience in the E&P sector throughout the project life cycle from design through construction and testing and commissioning. His range of experience covers; LV power distribution, backup generation, renewable energy, UPS, small power, lighting, lightning protection, fire alarms, points heating, signalling power, lighting and emergency lighting to name a few. Les has also acted as Contractors Responsible Engineer (E&P) for a range of projects, through GRIP 3-6.

John has world in railway telecommunications since 2003 starting off as a Graduate Telecoms Engineer. Working his way up through various telecoms engineering roles in the railway, John has spent time as both design CRE and construction support on various schemes throughout the UK and has worked client side for NR as Senior Telecommunications Project Engineer.

John offers a wealth of experience in telecommunications, SCADA and signalling.
